Effect of 6-aminonicotinamide on Levels of Soluble Proteins and Enzymes in the Serum of Japanese Quail
Mok Chang-Soo

Abstract
The effect of 6-aminonicotinamide(6-AN), an analogue of nicotinamide, on the levels of metabolites and enzymes in Japanese quail serum were investigated. The intrapertoneal administration of 6-AN (multiple doses of 20 §·/§¸ body weight)caused a marked increase in concentrations of glucose, creatine, urea nitrogen and uric acid but did not exert any appreciable influences on concentrations of cholesterol, albumin and triglyceride. Activities of amylase, glutamic oxalacetate transaminase, glutamic pyruvate tansaminase, lactate dehydrogenase, ¥Ô-glutamyltransferase and creatine phosphokinase were markedly enhanced whereas alkaline phosphates activity was significantly reduced. The concentrations of soluble proteins in heart, liver and pectoral muscle were determined to be markedly reduced but not in brain and kidney The results suggested that 6-An exerts profound effects on levels of glucose as well as of some enzymes related to the generation of energy for the maintenance of the basal metabolism.
